    Uhm, no.

I guess you haven't played a warrior under the new bash changes.

    True.
  7. Parn · 28 Aug 2004
Regardless of the bash changes you should make sure your target is dead before you try looting it. Even if he just typed in kick for a round or two instead of spamming get all corpse it would probably would of died or at least come a lot closer.

Yadda yadda bla bla. All you do is yak yak yak but I have yet to see any logs of you killing anyone.. at least not as consistently as mavlad. But I can see your "he's killing every poor newbie" retort from here. Mavlad kills. End of story. Don't bother who he kills.
  9. Gary · 28 Aug 2004
I feel the strange need to point out yet another "evil wild" death that isn't even wild. Regardless though, at least you got some nice loots. Ohh no wait, u got shit for loot. Why'd you kill this guy again?
  10. Kuss · 29 Aug 2004
Lee, I could probably rack up a lot of kills too if I just randomed whenever I felt like it for whatever made up reason. We have killed Morbius like 3 or 4 times but we just don't bother making lame posts because no one cares if some idiot neutral cleric with mediocre eq dies.

  16. Winston · 29 Aug 2004
I have an idea. Maybe you wouldn't be so bored with Arctic if you wouldn't spend 12 hours a day on it. Find a woman, find a job, find something to do with your time other than hunting neutrals and calling them Wild. I doubt Wild will come back to fight you this wipe, and I doubt anyone you attack will bother fighting you as well. No one cares enough about winning (except you) to make Arctic the defining feature of their lives.
  17. EvilJay · 30 Aug 2004
Winston, you obviously have no idea what you are talking about. I go to work and talk to people about the new prim I got on Arctic. They have no idea what I'm talking about, true,....But they are still impressed!

Do you have any idea how many times I've gotten laid because I told girls I prism and am NO_BASH.
And further more, do you know how often Mavlad has shown up at my house because he heard from some bar harlot that I had a nobash? Pff, Winston, please think before you speak.

Do any pics of Mavlad exist on the internet?
  22. darns · 30 Aug 2004
Winston, you are so blatantly stupid. I won't be surprised if you vote for bush (no offence to other bush genuine supporters). What makes you think the life you define, is actually the life everyone should live? So mavlad lacks "life" cause he don't go out and find some ho, do something YOU think is interesting or earn millions? Everyone have their freedom. Mavlad can go watch paints dry if he chooses so and you have no rights to claim what he does is lesser than what you do. It is an elitist view, noone have to conform to your views, because you are no one. You are no one in real life. you are no one in arctic. At least mavlad makes himself a legend in arctic, if not in real life. Maybe, being on the top pile of about 300 people in the world that plays this game is enough for him. What have you topped Winston?
  23. Oleg · 30 Aug 2004
However Lee, I wont mention material values, but even having one close friend or a person who cares about you in real life, is far better than to be a legend in the mud. Real life is more challenging and insteresting than any game. Games are good to have fun and a bit of rest from real life problems, but should not become the only way to escape from them. Therefore I pity mavlad and others who spent 24/7 hours wasting time in the mud. I used to do the same myself, so I know what I'm talking about. You can talk about freedom of choice etc, but you know yourself what choice would be better, even if you do not confess it openly.
  24. Oleg · 30 Aug 2004
Additionally, I would not consider Mavlad any close to the top of mud players, even within currently playing people (comparing him to some shriners, Kimmo, Lasse and others would be an insult to them). May be Im wrong, cause I never grouped with him and havent fight with or vs him for a long time, I judge only from the posted logs. He succesfuly pkills newbies, neutrals or unexpecting uknowns for sure. He sometimes fights ok in group fights. But thats it, nothing extraordinary, except his playing time.
  25. darns · 30 Aug 2004
I won't contradict you Oleg, but remember, that is your choice how you want to live your life. You prefer friends. So are hermits wrong? Are those monks and yoga masters that prefer to further their art in seclusion wrong? Is having net friends over real life friends wrong? At times, net friends are less pretentious, less judgemental and better than most "friends" you have in real life.

I won't compare mavlad to other "legends". But one contrasting point that separates mavlad from those you have listed is: They play to win; at all costs. Mavlad plays because of fun. You might think, does it still exist anymore. WTF anyone plays for fun anymore?!?!

    Mavlad does.

If you know him enough, he doesn't care if he lose. He doesn't care if he dies. He doesn't care if he can't lead Pax (which he can!) but all he cares is: Is he having fun doing anything? Including dying? If there is fun in dying, so he will die. Show me another person, that VOLUNTEERS his alt's 16dam to another naked tank, while he uses mage so that they can form a 10 man group, to battle the enemy, and in the process, lost both tank and mage eq. And what's more, he did not whine about his eq, not about his lost ranks. He just said "it was fun".

Same as us, we can never understand totally an athelete that trains 8 hours everyday so that he can compete in some games (which might not even be profitable compared to say, spending time on business). To him, it makes total sense, because he loves it. Same with mavlad. To all of you "go get a life" whiners, move on with your life, and leave mavlad to his own.

  27. EvilJay · 30 Aug 2004
I am going to comprise all of your ideas and comments in a book. I shall call it....
"Nerds and MUD Theory: A Difinitive Collection"
  28. Oleg · 30 Aug 2004
Rather then yoga and athletes, I would mention a closer and more true comparison - alcohol or drug addicts. They are also having their own fun, wasting their lives in a different reality. Did they also make a right choice? Should they just left alone? I wont be hypocritical - I do not really care much about mavlad and his way of life. I just know he will regret someday about all the wasted time and I hope this will happen soon enough.
As to the manner of his play, it is still clearly 'win at all costs' combined with doom-deathmatch frag hunting behavior. Even if he proclaimed his goal as fun, he still plays to reach it and does not care if other people get fun at it as well.
  29. suf · 30 Aug 2004
It's tough to give other people fun. They have to find it for themselves. I would say that the battle lee is speaking of doesn't really fit into anything that you mention Oleg. Mavlad plays the mud as a game. Because he doesn't mind dying, if he has some fun doing it, does not equal win at all costs. He's willing to take some risks if he thinks he has a chance of winning.

When I recalled Kazbek from 7 or 8 wilds he yelled at me for a long time. How does that fall into your categorization of his behavior? Mavlad plays the game on his terms. Just because you don't play it the same way doesn't make your way better than his or vice versa.
  30. eric- · 30 Aug 2004
I think the main (and pretty irrefutable) point Oleg brings up is mavlad escapes (or prefers) arctic to reality, for whatever reasons.

It's gonna suck when he wakes up, is 45, and realized he wasted his prime years staring at a computer terminal 18 hours a day, but that's not of my concern. That's what mid-life crises are for.
  31. Cain · 31 Aug 2004
The draw of Arctic is that it is very esoteric in nature.
It's about having fun yes, but where does the fun
come from; it comes from hidden knowledge you get,
keywords, zone features, stats yada yada. Bottom
line, knowledge on Arctic = power on Arctic, which is
what also makes it hard to seperate yourself from.
There are some of us who play this game where if
this game actually applied to anything real those
people would be the nostradamus's, leonardo da
vinci's or other people who seemed to have a better
understanding of what was really going on. But
thats where the problem lies, Arctic doesn't really
help you in 'reality' except for helping russians
write in english, helping people type 150 words a
minute, or by helping people realise that trusting
others with power will generally lead to some
    dissapointing act of betrayal.
  32. Winston · 31 Aug 2004
    Darns,

If the only satisfaction you get from life is from having x number of damage, leading y zones, killing z newbies, all in a text-based world, you are pathetic indeed. In Mavlad and in others you have obvious stamina (obsession?) and fortitude which COULD be devoted to a craft, a lobbying purpose, ANYTHING and yet gets wasted behind a computer screen. I love to play this game recreationally; I am not arguing that Mavlad is having fun. However, that was not the point. I won't delve further into any sociological or medical (feel that metabolism slowing) reasons to do something else, but even John Stuart Mill would agree that one could find a greater degree of happiness and satisfaction somewhere other than playing mud or watching paint dry, if one would only get out of his or her computer chair to look!
  33. Cain · 31 Aug 2004
In short, most of us have been somewhat near Maavlad's
status of playtime, ok well maybe not nearly that much
but still a rediculous amount. He's definately improved from
last wipe to this wipe yet its obviously at the cost of his
social life but hey, when I mudded that much I didn't care
about my social life either. Anyways I'm going to stop babbling now, basically if you can be good enough to find
some medium between your mud time and functioning
out of mud than I think that makes you a better player.
Its easy to have a tank with over 10 damage or a mage with almost every spell in the game if you are playing 16 hours a day. Anyways, I'm one of those people who don't have time to mud anymore, anyone want Satya's gear?
If so email my ass, if you dont have my email then you
    don't deserve it!

I completely admit to my friends that I am 'very addicted to this online computer game'. I have one other friend who knew what a mud was before I started, the just rest stares at me and doesn't understand. This mud is addictive, it definitely had a negative effect on the first two years of my PhD (who said doctorate and mud can't go together, I will prove you wrong!). Now I have found a balance between real life and mud, mostly due to my friends (and colleagues) reminding me not to play too much. I am, however, still completely addicted. After playing actively for a couple of years, I think most people will be addicted to muds, whether they play or not. Oleg, I am sure you are still addicted as well.
  35. Cain · 31 Aug 2004
Oh and one more thing, Andrew would be
the equivalent of Evita on Arctic, the guy
gives great head for keywords, I think he
must have blown half of Arctics better
players to get as far as he did.
  36. Oleg · 31 Aug 2004
A few years ago, when I played arctic a lot, I tried to get my friend playing as well. He also likes computer games etc, so I had a good chance. I explained him how it works, how nice it is. So he told me, "yeah I see. this is really cool and exciting game.... so I better wont even try it". Now I see how wise he was. I can not say Im absolutely not addicted anymore, tho I do not play arctic actively for more then a year already. But I know that in order to be on a somewhat decent level in arctic you have to play regularly few hours a day, which Im not ready to waste. So now I only log few times a week when have a mood + read logs and forum.
  37. Hravitz · 31 Aug 2004
That's like saying "Who are you to belittle someone who is 35 but still plays in under 12 soccer so he can kickass and be obnoxious"? I'd make fun of a douche like that in real life, so I'll damn well make fun of him here. And I'm sure I risk mavlad's wrath if I ever start playing seriously again, which is pretty doubtful.

PS. This thread is getting pretty introspective and deep for a thread that started as people laughing at Mavlad for boasting about slaughtering random newbs and being a general ass.

Those are called coaches, team leaders and parents, take yer pick. =)

There are plenty of people who do it in real life I sail to see why it should be more terrible in a game where children doesn't actually get hurt.

It’s about all this “get a life” and “mud is waste of your time”
Can not judge others, but looking on myself I can say this:
for me mud (Arctic and others I play, played and most likely will play)
is part of my life. Yes life, not escape from reality. Not main part, but important.
I spend quite a lot of time in muds, not like Mavlad, but still. And I don’t regret it.
I like it. I love it. And it don’t prevent me from living my life in other dimensions.
I am happy man. My wife is beautiful woman, and what is more important she is
incredibly awesome person. I will become father soon and this makes me even more happy.
I’ve been traveling alot around the world, visited many interesting and exciting countries and places (at least on my taste) and have even more plans for future. I live in superb
apartments that belongs to me, I drive good car, I have job I like and I earn good money there.
And so on, and so on…

Why I posting it? Not to say how cool I am but just to make a point,
that we just choose our balance between different things that are important and/or
interesting for us. So live your life, choose for yourself and don’t judge others.

And yea, don’t blame me for my poor English :)

If I were Suf, I'd ban PsychoDad from this forum.
If I were Aristox, I'd ban PsychoDad from Arctic.
If I were his father, I'd force PsychoDad's mother to have an abortion before he is born.

But I am neither of the three.. life sucks.
