Wow BSP, nice job. Way to take the high road.

When Arctic dies, this log will make me feel much less sympathetic to all you who sacrificed so much in real life so you could rule a text based world. Again, wow, you guys are douchebags.

i think nab is scum. i don't know his affiliations, i don't care. he is the one i don't like. and no, i don't think chaos is scum, they just made a bad choice, paid for it, and got peaced again.

Let's take the Arctic Stupidity Exam: Scum

    Which is scum?
    a) Fighting randomers
    b) Lying to one's clan saying that a friend groups those randomers

    Which is scum?
    a) Collecting evidence about a randomer's multis, then deciding the evidence wasn't good enough, so delayed any actions.
    b) Threatening to kill someone and all their friends if the original touched a friend of yours, then to hunt him anyways after he accepted warning.

    Which is scum?
    a) Randoming.
    b) Hunting randomers.

    Which is scum?
    a) Walking up to a group and spam looking at them with a lowbie mage.
    b) Killing a lowbie mage who walks up to your group and spam looks at them.

    Which is scum?
    a) Unknowingly 'stealing' a zone after one sees no evidence that anyone's there.
    b) Slaughtering a group without question if you 'think' they are 'stealing' the zone.

    Which is scum?
    a) Maintaining moral standards.
    b) Compromising moral standards because it's more convenient.

A score less than a 100% will officially label you as a braindead moron.

Scum: Someone who tells you to die irl because of a game on numerous occasions!

    Answer: Haley
  9. Rurh · 6 Dec 2004
You don't see the difference at all, which is sad.
And my previous arguments were apparently to complex for you to handle. I doubt repeating them would do much good anyway.

That is extremely shallow thinking, even for you.
If all you see is the front face of the appearance of the game, and nothing beyond that, then you've totally missed the point.

I am fully aware that this is a game. It never has not been. What I am aware of, however very few other people seem to care about, is the affects it has on real life, on you and those you prey on. The fact it occurs through text is basically irrelevant.

Correction... Elsara scum.. I dont know who a nab is. Thought it was elsara... Scum can mean many things.. But Elsara is scum not because he attacks chaos but he is a randomer who kills noobs and cant even zone and cheats people on deals. But thats arctic life sooo lets have some fun and keep the mud alive.

P.S Haley just see me on the mud and we will settle this like warriors....
  12. haley · 6 Dec 2004
God I love Arctic. Everytime I feel like taking a break I get revived with such a challenge. Thank you jnick, I'm going to truely enjoy this. While my tactics are going to be less than desirable. I will kill you in honor of a lost friend.

    I'll meet you soon.

You tell your group 'like recall'
    Argis disappears.
    Sthorm disappears.
    Ezra disappears.
    Sanchez says 'bash coming'
    Lavasi disappears.
    Sanchez says '5'
    Darvil pouts.
    Sanchez says '4'
    Sanchez says '3'
    Darvil disappears.
    You say 'for what?'
    Sanchez says '2'
    Sanchez says '1'
    You're dead.

Nab, you are an idiot and you walked right into your own death. Hitting commands when a bash is probably coming is also pretty newb, had you not typed "look" and gone straight for "recite recall me" you would have lived.

    You sir, are an idiot.
  14. Rurh · 6 Dec 2004
Actually the true idiot is the one who assumes that which is wrong.

My goal wasn't necesarily to escape. At that point I didn't care much. If I had, I would have recalled along with everyone else.
I wasn't lagged, I just didn't feel like tucking tail and running because someone growled at me.

I tried to recall after I was bashed for the hell of it.
  15. Mike R. · 6 Dec 2004
out of pure curiosity, rurh, can you please show me the evidence you collected on Rorc? it will be fun for the both of us.

  16. Rurh · 6 Dec 2004
Too bad 'scum' is often used at someone you don't like, without any real thought or logic behind it.

You can see my evidence when you are swoltering in hell!
  17. ddog · 6 Dec 2004
if mud dies, even better! everyone can waste their time in some better place. hooray
  18. Malth · 6 Dec 2004
I'd say someone can be scum if they always assume themself to be correct, and reply to anything that goes against their ideals as not being good enough for them to care about...

Oh wait, that's Rurh. Can't you ever suck it up and be a man? Christ, nobody cares about your carebear views, if we did, arctic would be an utterly boring mud, and it'd die just as fast as the other low-pk muds out there.

Tell me, what's the effects this mud has on your real life? It's a waste of time whether you're 'winning' or 'losing', and if you're one of those type of people that let a game cause you to cry and be depressed irl, then seek help.

You know, life isn't fair, and people arne't all hippies who love each other. If you can't deal with what happens on arctic, then I suggest you leave and never return, you'll make everyone happy(including yourself), and you know it. This goes for anyone who cries and bitches about things such as powerful clans flexing their muscles, as if empire wouldn't have tried to do so if they somehow ever became powerful.
  19. meetalisher · 6 Dec 2004
    this mud is allready dead.
you can see this because instead of good natured bitchslapping on the post, people are actually taking this shit seriously, which means that they're feeling the end. and by the way, what kind of dumbfuck clan logs on a mud with 40 people tops logged at all times...and manages to piss off 30 of them?

in fact, all i have to say is 2 words to show how bsp is shitbagging themselves:

    zexx / duce
  20. u05 · 6 Dec 2004
This is funny (not this particular log), the fact that since I've quit I can read logs of the ppl I would be spending time hunting killing each other without the effort of having to do it myself!
  21. Rurh · 6 Dec 2004
I usually only post when I know myself to be correct. If I'm not sure, then I let people know that. So that's the part you ever see.

So, reading through your post, I can safely conclude that by your very definition, I'm not scum. Gee wilikers.

The typical idiocy people tend to adhere to, is not realizing, that just because something isn't perfect, and won't ever be, that it shouldn't still be improved upon.

And unless you haven't noticed, your non-carebear mud isn't fairing too well.
  22. Malth · 6 Dec 2004
And if it was the pussified MUD you and a few others would like it to be, you'd have about half as many people playing as you do now.
  23. haley · 7 Dec 2004
What are you talking about? He has no problem with pking and has never demanded a "pussified mud."

Stop the petty arguements with him. We went through this crap a month or so ago lets not start it up again.
  24. Mike R. · 7 Dec 2004
    still waiting for the evidence...

you do realize if you don't prove yourself, then you are no better than corey or anyone else who killed (or thought about killing) with circumstancial(sp) evidence, therefore ruining any credibility you could have possibly built for yourself. will be fun if you don't prove yourself, then everyone will be right in calling you the semi-well-read haley or feroz.
  25. Brafu · 7 Dec 2004
The main thing I found funny about this log is that nab's group seemed like they had no clue nab was the target of that entry bash. The paladin was simply guarding nab so it stepped in front of the bash. I had a decent laugh at how much they looked like newbies at that moment.
  26. Rurh · 7 Dec 2004
Actually Mike, you're precisely right, it was circumstancial evidence. I started reviewing my evidence and found some gaps. I practically stopped hunting him as soon as I started, way before you decided to waste your time in theatening me.

I'm not convinced he Rorc is Elsara, but I'm not convinced he isn't either. As was pointed out to me, you could be lying to me and your entire clan there, to cover your brother's ass.

So I'm sorry if your saying so doesn't weigh too heavily.
  27. Parn · 7 Dec 2004
Rurh, why do you act like you hold some power on the mud? You never have and never will. You wanting to pk someone is like feroz or goka wanting to pk someone, it's just not a threat. So sit down shut up and let people have their fun.
  28. Mike R. · 7 Dec 2004
i never said i had evidence, i don't need any really. if you have evidence, people won't be protected. until then the big bad bsp randoming machine will crush anyone attacking people who are protected
  29. Rurh · 7 Dec 2004
That all depends on what you consider power.

I gravitate towards groups of generally decent people.
Some people around here automatically whore themselves to anyone who'll get them ahead.

My choice to choose quality over quantity is not regretted in the slightest.

Mike: That's exactly one of the things that screws up the mud... trash being protected by clans. You people are actively destroying your own ability to have fun, and you seem too oblivious to realize it.
  30. Mike R. · 7 Dec 2004
i have plenty of fun when i'm online cause i don't spend time making sure everything is as well thought out as which doctor i want to operate on my heart. if i wanted to think about the repurcussions of my actions i'd go get a job manning the 'nuke xxx foreign country' button. this is a game, rurh, not church. morals have no place here! :)
  31. Rurh · 7 Dec 2004
    Well a few comments there.

    1) Just because it's a game doesn't mean you have the right to do anything you want, and doesn't make it okay to do anything you want.

    2) Explain how it being a game makes it void of that particular human set of standards. The biggest mistake I see people making with this concept, is that (Which eddie so effectively demonstrated before he deleted his post) the content of the game is the morality of that I speak. I'm talking about the real people playing it in relation to the other real people playing it, and the more complex situation that the two people reside in arctic as opposed to straight up deathmatch, or pure EQ zoning.

Most people, like you, just try to simplify it to something you don't want to have to worry about, whether you should or not.

    3) Morals are not based on religion. That's another misunderstanding people have. Athiests often have a more clear understanding of morality than the religious folk, since they don't have some old book or old guy disconbobulating morality in their minds. We're supposed to take morality wherever we go. As soon as we dump the sense of right and wrong, we become destructive, in ways that are either percievable, or not.
  32. adam- · 7 Dec 2004
Rurh, i think Renshai mud is perfect for you. You're free to explore and preach(whine) about morality all you want without fear of pk. Plus you'd be the top player there!

  34. haley · 8 Dec 2004
yes all 40 people that are still playing this late in the wipe, heh. that makes what 15-20 at any given time bsd/outlaw or some sort of affiliate? and another 5-10 randomers and a couple newbies. very enjoyable indeed.
  35. Malth · 8 Dec 2004
It is for them Haley, but you, Rurh and a small handful of others simply don't realize that, or won't admit it because YOU aren't having fun.
If BSP and Outlaws weren't hanging around you'd have alot less people playing, and the mud would be utterly boring. You'd have a coupel zoning clans, and maybe chaos would try to cause a war at some point with myth or kos, wow, I bet that would be an interesting conflict.
  36. jnick · 8 Dec 2004

We all know that when I quit the mud fell apart. The hatred for me was keeping it together. Friends of mine just stopped playing since I stopped, then friends of theirs and so on. I was the bridge over which fags and decent people ventured onto eachother's sides. Now it is all over!
  38. haley · 8 Dec 2004
im sure bsd warring wild was fun for both of them (until wild couldnt compete much). im sure renshai warring dm was fun last wipe. fighting kot for the first week was fun for me. the point is there is a point when it has to stop. sure its fun to fight a comparable clan and win. its a whole new issue to be obliterated time and time again for no point. thats not fun anymore thats taking it too far. i really dont see how it could be fun to go into a fight knowing u have 0 chance to lose. its the competetiveness that drives the mud. i agree with that. the randoming as of late is not fun for anyone BUT outlaws and their trash
  39. Rurh · 8 Dec 2004
My morality prevents me from playing RenshaiMud, Thieves!

Also, keep calling me a whiner. Someday I might actually care!

"Mike R. rurh, you never cease to entertain! keep ranting while the rest of us enjoy the game how we please. "

It's too bad the enjoying the game how you please, basically means killing the mud.

"Malth It is for them Haley, but you, Rurh and a small handful of others simply don't realize that, or won't admit it because YOU aren't having fun."

Actually we do have fun. Quite often actually. The game is quite entertaining. It's the other idiots in the game that end up ruining it. At some point people just decide that dealing with the jerks just isn't worth it to play the game.

I couldn't help but notice that Mike. R totally ignored my morality comments, so either
    a) He's too stupid to comprehend
    b) He doesn't try to comprehend because he'd rather not have to deal with it

It's probably b), but problems don't go away because you ignore them.
  40. Mike R. · 9 Dec 2004
well, i figured since you refuse to comment on anything having to do with the evidence i asked for, i figured there was no reason to respond to your 'morality' issues.

if you have a problem with 'fags like us' destroying arctic, stop playing. simple as that. and your sweeping generalizations are a bit off, also. you act like a politician on mud boards trying to disprove everyone's logic etc, but in reality you waste your life on this stupid (addicting nonetheless) game, just like all of us geeks, randomers, cavemen, whatever you want to call us in your posts. intelligence took flight the instant you logged into arctic.mud, your juvenile 'i'm smarter than you all and i'm gonna prove it on this board' complex is a bit retarded. people who changed shit in real life didn't write letters to congress, they did stuff. they picketed, they made petitions etc. where is the action to get your righteous ideals done? or do you expect your 'superior intelligence' to make things happen without you having to lift a finger?

    scum! :)
  41. haley · 9 Dec 2004
Rurh refuses to give you some proof but I will.

The two guys (Elsara and Rorc) had two almost identical shouts within a short period of time.

One log off other log on, never on at the same time. Coincidence? Maybe.

Then to get a little more technical about it. I sat in the inn and chatted with Elsara. He talked about his brother (you maybe?) and how him and his brother had all this experience and all that great stuff.

Just to help put it in perspective. Let's say that half the mudders have brothers well say there is 80 people online (thats an over estimate). So 40 of the people who are online at any given time have brothers. Let's say that another half of them are experienced players. We're now at 20 people. Out of that 20 people 8 of them are randomers. So that means there are 12 friendly mudders and 8 jerks.

We throw into account the other things mentioned earlier and that really starts to narrow down the possibilities. As I recall there were a few more possible clues that lead us to that conclusions but there are a few for you Mike.

Maybe he's not your brother, I don't know but we had reasonable proof to believe he was. And as mentioned earlier BSD protecting their trash with their real characters isn't anything new. (Patrick/Pablo to name a couple)

  42. Parn · 9 Dec 2004
When it comes to randomers it's usually the same group of people who just remake new chars to random with. You and Rurh vastly overexagerate the amount of randomers on the mud. Only time it is ever really dangerous is when some large group of well spelled/equipped people decide to go randoming but then you can usually avoid them after hearing a shout or two about those "randoming assholes". When you can generally say "hey guess i'll rent now and maybe do something productive." So stop whining and teach some people some common sense and guess what? The amount of victims will decrease dramatically.
  43. haley · 9 Dec 2004
If you think 8 randomers online out of 80 people is an overestimate you are wrong my friend.
  44. eddiex · 10 Dec 2004
funny to assume that only experienced players random, i've seen some queerass newbies attempt to random and they sucked dick. one was named corey :P. the only people who die to randomers are idiots, i don't think i was ever killed by a randomer this wipe on a char that was known or unknown.
  45. eddiex · 10 Dec 2004
here is an important tip that newbies should know, not taught by the faeries of goodness rurh and haley, if you are randomed, don't mouth of to the murderer, mouthing off means you think you can take action back against this person but if you are a newbie then you really can't do shit, talking shit will only make them kill you more and then it won't be randoming but targeting, i suggest if you plan on obtaining revenge on this individual you do so calmly and quietly, when you actually have half a chance.
  46. Parn · 10 Dec 2004

Oh jnick I remember the golden days of arctic, when randoming was part of the game with no nerfs or anything and it was even accepted by everyone and yet there was a consistent mud population of 140ish those were the good ol' days when people had the most fun. Thank you Rurh for being the voice of reason which helped turn the mud into the waste it is today.
  49. jnick · 10 Dec 2004
No doubt those where the days.. What has happen.. Maybe i should go bomb noryls house!
  50. Malth · 10 Dec 2004
Those were days before the evils of Ultima online and Everquest, before the dark age of imming, aka the crybaby trash-nazi godsm, when being a titled neutral didn't get you highlighted, and there were an abundance of neutral groups. Abusing charm so much that it got removed from the tarsis guild, people pking people they hated without gods going apeshit, or pked a lowbie.

I miss those days, but MUds, mainly pwiping ones like arctic, are dying off, and while the current rules are killing it off faster, I don't think anything will bring it back up to the 100-120 people at low times and 160-200+ at peak.
  51. Parn · 10 Dec 2004
I miss being able to charm people with gaze, I think you still can but only like level 10's and lower which = lame. Hey son how many girls called you today? Zero? Well, how many called you yesterday? Zero? You know what they say zero plus zero equals fag! and anything times zero equals fag! Ahh kids in the hall you never disappoint.
  52. Hravitz · 11 Dec 2004
The sad thing is that the utter stupidity and lameness of the masses drag down the fun for those who actually enjoy using skill to compete on online games.

Arctic was unique because its primary focus wasn't so much on time spent online in order to become good. Sure, that could make a big difference, but the real key was how you handled yourself online, how you interacted with other players and how you integrated yourself into a strong clan. People like Goka could spent their entire life on the mud, but still suck ass because they weren't smart enough to be competitive. Meanwhile, others could be very efficient with their time and be top players.

However, its always a somewhat small fraction that is skilled. And so many of the guys who aren't in the arena whine about it and bitch about PK. Some eventually grow up and realize that nothing prevents them from gaining some skill and doing the same thing, but most don't.

Games like EQ now just promote this lameness about playing as much as you can, camping, shit like that. There is no competitive edge where there's no risk of you getting fucked, and thus there is no intelligent strategy or anything like that at all. A bot could play everquest and do as well if not better as a lot of people. Its really sad no modern games came out that put an emphasis on strategy, clan dynamics, and player killing. When everyone is a "winner", insulated in their little bubble, it eliminates any real competition and makes everything boring.

    Just my 2 cent rant.
  53. jnick · 11 Dec 2004
    Id have to agree there...
  54. Malth · 11 Dec 2004
Hravitz needs to try Guildwars. you have to work well as a group on that or you simply get rocked by mobs and other players.

Pity that inorder to 'be a non-p2p mmorpg' theyre selling several mandatory expansions per year... Not p2p my ass. *cough*
  55. jnick · 11 Dec 2004
Dont know about that.. If you want to try a game very much like arctic with zoning and using eq/spells to defend a clan or race of people you might want to try and play world of warcraft. Game is great for player vs game and player vs player....
  56. Hravitz · 11 Dec 2004
I don't know about Guildwars, but I have looked at World of Warcraft. While it looks spiffy and yes, I understand that PK is allowed, I still don't think its what I'm talking about.

These games like WoW focus on levels over resources (equip, spells, items). Also, when you die, what happens? Nothing, you lose experience or "durability" or whatever, but your equipment remains. So what is the point of playerkilling?

When I play a game, my goal is to generally become one of the powerful elite. That is my success, but in these games, the only way to do that is by putting in a ridiculous amount of playtime. There is no incentive to form cohesive clans of top players, because
    1) You can't get equipment from players by playerkilling,
    2) A retard who's spent a month of playing time on the game is more effective that a smart player with 10 days of time
    3) Spells are bought using skill point, not gotten from particularly tough mobs.
    4) You can't kill your own faction, and you can only attack opposing factions when they venture out into contested/enemy territory.

All this makes for a lack of differentiation. How can you be the 'shriners' of this game, if you can't war a particular guild/clan, the only way to get equipment is from killing mobs, and the game rewards those who play the most, not those who possess the best skills (ie, good pk leader, knows lots of zones, etc). Its still carebear land in my opinion. If you can't get someone's equipment by killing them, what the hell is the point of pk?
  57. Rurh · 12 Dec 2004
When Corey and Adam pkilled my level 1 at tollhouse, they enjoyed my training eq heartily.

The incorrectness of that is that you assume that equipment is the only reason to pk, a reason you keep restating.
Many pkill simply to pkill. Many also realize that to go around pkilling for eq, can have the undesired effect of a larger clan coming to take YOUR stuff away, so these people don't end up caring about the eq to begin with.

I doubt outlaw is really in despirate need of people's equipment lately, either.
  58. jnick · 12 Dec 2004
Ya your 100% right hravitz but what about lineage2? That is roughly like arctic when it comes to pk. And zoning etc..
  59. Hravitz · 12 Dec 2004
I am not saying that people pkill for equipment, or that equipment is needed as an incentive for pkilling. People generally PK for 4 reasons:

    1) They don't like you
    2) They are incredibly bored or are going to quit
    3) They want a challenge
    or
    4) They are in a competition for scarce resources, ie equipment, and usually via a clan war.

Those top 3 are fine and can provide some enjoyment from PK, but they don't really create any sort of dynamic. By having the 4th though, that means that there are scarce resources, and so only by killing that player can you get a hold of those resources. This creates the competitive clan dynamic and makes is so you can rely on strategy and clan interaction for success over simply time spent.
