    Welcome to Arctic.

Arctic is a heavily modified DIKU with the experienced player in mind.
Our administration policy is not to interfere with mortal affairs.
Please bear that in mind when asking for assistance.

This disclaimer should be removed whatsoever. It contradicts the present immortals policy in every word, almost.
Should make it "Dear players! Welcome to the carebear MUD! You shall be taken care of nicely here, noone would dare to kill you! Please, oh, please, do come back and bring your spineless friends along! We need them so much, we plainly can not sleep because we think of them all the time!"
  8. Rurh · 19 May 2005
And a MUD that makes it a point to alienate as many people as possible.. is going to survive?

What I showed from the shouts was this: He was deleted because he tried to circumvent a siteban. Not because he was randoming.
  9. Brafu · 19 May 2005
Anyone who thinks Arctic is a "carebear" mud is probably in a clan or is well connected with one. Just try being a true neutral with decent eq sometime and see how much of a "carebear" mud this is.
  10. mavlad · 19 May 2005
how about try to be not neutral? you guys missing a main point of this game :)
  11. Rurh · 19 May 2005

I never saw that in the mission statment.

"The point of Arctic is to join a clan."
  12. reafe · 19 May 2005
clan politics in arctic destroy it. two main clans will always exist and crush smaller clans to maintain the status quo. arctic will never grow again, only slowly deteriorate.
  13. Brafu · 19 May 2005
I happen to like being neutral because I don't have to listen to fools who think they have some mystical right to order me around. And we all know this mud would be dead within a month if it wasn't for all the neutrals.

PS. And no Im not going to turn this into some big anti-clan rant like I normally do.

clan wars are the best fun here
  15. vaga · 19 May 2005
clan wars are fun. but are you having fun now mavlad? cause all your doing is zoning. except when you pick off somebody once a month. this game isnt all about just killing its about having fun and being with ppl you like and just playing together. when ppl realize this is a game again and its suppose to be fun then more ppl might come back and play. ive noticed bsp has gone down hill in the last year. first off they are recruiting ppl they would have spit on before. secondly they are killing anybody not in bsp that has equipment which is great if you are warring some clan but not if its neutrals. and thirdly or the third:P they are soon gonna be the only clan on arctic and be playing with themselves. the avg night has like 50 ppl playing when this time last wipe it was 100+. just some things i have noticed:) lets hear what you gotta say:P

    Erik
  16. Mike R. · 19 May 2005
erik: you mean to tell me that no other clan that is currently playing has ever killed a neutral, randomed on accident, recruited other people?

i find it hard to believe.
    look on urself!
  17. Malth · 19 May 2005
The point of Arctic is to recruit a bunch of shitty players, lead them through most/all zones, have them log the zone, repeat till they can lead the zone so that you have a couple dozen people always able to repop your decays, right Mavlad?

Not much point to log right now, the few people i played with who didn't leave for some shitty game like WoW and wanted PvP ended up playing Guild Wars, you wouldn't like it mavlad, it relies on more than just outnumbering your enemies. ;)
  18. minch · 19 May 2005
ok since the log is on rgbs site and not here i have to post a comment on it here(breaker rip log). How much of an idiot can you be? really, did you think you wouldn't be ambushed grouping a WILD SCOUT with that many wilds on? get some fucking sense already, no wonder you had no eq, even ferozcrew has +2 heals on their level 25 healers while you had none.
  19. u05 · 19 May 2005
That seems a pretty good prim for a newbie, my bet is you pk'd one of the imms or someone close to them. You should know that they dictate who can be pkilled and are trying their hardest to be the only people that still play arctic. WoW/diablo2 are much better.
  20. Seq · 19 May 2005
I don't understand this ridiculous double standard the anti clan crowd constantly adopts. The mud would be dead without neutrals, well, if I concede that point will you also concede the mud would be dead without clans? Because it seems to me clanned players make up a very significant portion of the playerbase AND are the crowd 2/3 of zones cater to. To address another point, if you can call it that, if you don't want to be ordered around DON'T LET SOMEBODY ORDER YOU AROUND. Generally to learn the really high level parts of the game you need to follow people for awhile, but if you want to try your hand at leading in ignorance you can always form your own clan. At least that way you'd get to SEE the parts of the game meant for clans. Finally, how is what neutrals do any different than what clans do? Somebody said the point of the game is to have fun zone together play with people you like etc., well many of the best times I've had on this game were with Wild- in clan battles or zoning or exploring or just in IRC. Being neutral is cool yes and you don't need to join a clan, but there is nothing fundamentally wrong about clans and not only do they allow you to experience aspects of the game you wouldn't otherwise; they also bring otherwise unrelated players together in an atmosphere of teamwork, cooperation, and FUN. Not all clans are like this all the time but they wouldn't stay together if nobody was enjoying themselves. I guess that's all I got.
  21. Gabriel · 19 May 2005
Minch as much as you'd like to believe that wild's would be so petty as to use their scouts to cheat: they do not. I repeat: stop assuming that because YOU would use a scout to cheat must necessarily mean that scout players are cheating.

This is the most fun game that was ever invented, if more people came back over next wipe it'll be just as fun as before, since then there will be more neutrals for other neutrals who can lead to group with. And when there's more neutrals to group with, there will be no mishighlights, since nowadays you can't do anything bigger than quali without *joining* a clan group.

Im not saying that clans overall are a bad idea. But its messed up when I can't even get good eq on my chars because I will be labeled a unknown evil by some clan. Now its true that Im by nature a paranoid person. But I have learned the hard way that you NEVER take your eye's off the clans because they always end up screwing with you.

I understand completely where you're coming from on the neutral point. All 4 of my main chars were at one point accused of being BSP or OUTLAW! constantly just because they were halfass decent. This continued until consequently both sides killed off all my chars. The only difference is this - Outlaw had the respect to return ALL my eq. when they realized there was a mistake.. BSP response was "you're unhighlighted" "oops" and "hmm.. sucks"
  31. Drake · 20 May 2005
Less and less people return after each successive wipe. Sure during the first couple of months it'll be 150+ each night, but as people settle in for deep rent for age bonuses the population will drop significantly, as it does every year. Too many people return only to find everything just the same, or worse. If you think otherwise, look at the 30-50 people on daily anymore and realize you're an ignorant fool.
  32. breaker · 20 May 2005
Minch you a retard if you think wild scouts didnt give info where group was. Think wildlaws logged and ran to me out of sheer intuition, or even luck? Please...

And no i'm not accusing anyone, just stating the obvious fact. I don't consider it cheating when I make mistake to group with wild scout, and wild scout reports info to his friends. We all are human.

Also, the reason i had 0 +heals while ferozcrew has multiple +heals is not because I cannot get them. I have stopped playing Breaker a main char, so why greed?

Minch, You talk too much and sound like retard. Please stop this!
  33. eddiex · 20 May 2005
Uh, any neutral who complains that they can't load and keep good equip either is a newb or just has no friends. I have been playing as a neutral for a large
part of this wipe, like right now and i've had 5 dam chars, not shitty dams, either and items that many clanned chars would have liked to have. However, i am friendly and cautious (something that most neutrals aren't). THAT is why i have clan worthy equipment as a neutral, and the neuts complaining, do not.
  34. Brafu · 20 May 2005
Im not going to kiss any clan ass just for the right to be a neutral. Thats the whole problem with most of the current clan's. You have to kiss their ass and make nice just so they won't jump you because you have some shiny bit they might need for a trash char.

I shouldn't have to prove Im a neutral just so they won't jump me. They should have to prove Im NOT a neutral before they decided to ambush me. Back even a few wipes ago that was the norm for most clans. They had some sense of clan honor and they didn't want a reputation as scum. Clans today don't seem to care if everyone calls them scum or not...... Goes to show what type of people the clans are made of I guess.

  35. Malth · 20 May 2005
I've had my unknowns followed and watched alot due to it having nice eq, you can argue that I got it from being in garbage, or some other bullshit excuse, but my unknowns never got eq from any clannie, and even the chars ive made that lore and the others didn't know were me, had nice enough eq to have a few different people make attempts to pk them.

Also, who cares what feroz and his buddies have? Epso and the main BSP healers can't use -every- +heal they pop, and you're bound to learn where a few thigs pop when you're redshirtting for a massive clan like BSP, altho I honeslty can't see how being in such a large clan could be any fun. We've seen already that they have the numbers to make skill and prep useless. There's some BSP members I respect and would group with sure, but overall it just seems like it'd be so fucking boring.

Look. When I was a child the grass was greener and the sky was of majestic blue. People would love each other, smile and go around making presents to each other.
Nowadays the grass is gray, the sky cannot be seen because of the smog and the acid rain falls down to devastate the land. The people are scum, they hate each other, friendliness is obsolete and the young do not listen to the elder's wisdom.
    [**Yair: move out of russia!]

Would the people ever stop compare the present and the past in favour of the latter?
This is utter bullshit, the things are always the same, it's just your memory playing trick games with your perception of the things which passed. The good things tend to stay in your memory for much longer, while the ugly are suppressed by unconscious, that's a known fact.
  38. eddiex · 20 May 2005
Brafu: don't insult me i don't kiss ass, i just have friends.
If you don't have a reputation and want to have good gear as a neutral:
    A) Be smart, take notes of all the faggots who look at you then bow afterwords. (Half are newbs, half are spys). Also note the groupies who mysteriously look at you everytime you're in combat and annhilate.
    B) Use conceal.
    C) Make friends neut and clanned, the less obscure and reclusive you are, the more likely you won't get unrightfully killed. (If you try to hide things, you will be more suspicious then if you are open about it.)
    Example:
    Situation 1
Bill (clannie 1): Is Brafu evil? He has a warhammer.
Steve (clannie 2): No, i grouped him before, he's cool.
    Situation 2
Bill: Is Brafu evil? I just seen him in town.
Steve: I have him suspect, everytime i walk into room he leaves immediately or recalls.

Im so sick of hearing this whineing. Clan this clan that. Im a poor neutral and i got pkilled by a clan for my bronze eq.*CRY* If i had whined so much back when i was a neutral and the shriners was pkilling me everyday i would be site banned. Quit whineing and do something about it if you dont like it. Make your our clan and fight back or something. Do anything just stop whineing.
  41. Beryv · 20 May 2005
Amusing when clanned people tell neutrals to stop whining. Maybe we should make this a tit for tat agreement, with clannies quitting their whining too.

While you guys are at it how about agreeing to never again attempting to find ways to circumnavigate arctic rules and policies. Maybe then the imms won't have to take such a heavy hand to you.

If its not obvious to you all the Gods are sick of players' impunity for the rules. Expect harsher punishments and more vigilance wether you are clanned or neutral.

Beryv Amusing when clanned people tell neutrals to stop whining. Maybe we should make this a tit for tat agreement, with clannies quitting their whining too.

If your post was intended for me i have never whined. I have never tryed to find ways to circumnavigate arctic rules and policies. I think the punishments should be more harsh on those who do break the rules. I also dont pk those i think is neutrals. In fact i try to help unclanned or newbie players whenever i can. My point is there was never so much whineing before as there is now. Back then if the shriners was bored and decided to pk your neutral zoneing group tough luck. More or less we didnt whine like neutrals do now.

Dean: Would you like some cheese with that whine?

Here's a thought: If there is continuous, consistent 'whining' about a particular subjects, maybe there is actually something wrong?
  44. Rurh · 20 May 2005
Also, surely you're aware of the futility of 'making a clan to retaliate'?

It's nearly impossible to start a new clan, with Mavlad spontaneously declaring war left and right.
The moment a clan even starts to become established, they are squashed. With the exception of Myth/Kos sofar.

Yes i want lots of cheese with that whine.
I guess you could have a point. Maybe there is something wrong.

so brafu, if you got pulled over by a police officer you would tell him to fuck off when he asked you a question?

don't misunderstand me, i'm not comparing bsp to law enforcement in any way, but if someone has the power to make your life suck, and all it would take for you to stop it is a little open honesty and respect, is that too much to ask?

half of the highlights in bsp are for 'suspicious actions' (eg recalling when we enter the room multiple times, telling someone off when asked a question, being a general asshole because they are talking to a member of the clan), so as far as i'm concerned if all of you crybaby neutrals wanted to stop it, you could. i personally respect someone who can load the gear, tell me they load the gear themselves than someone who says 'i followed someone to zone' and refuses to tell me who the 'someone' is, only to find out later it is a leader of an opposing clan or something.

if you wanna stop dying to clans, do something yourself. this isn't the united states, and by no means are you innocent until proven guilty. you don't wanna change? why do we have to?
  47. Rurh · 21 May 2005
    Mike R.

First off, "eg recalling when we enter the room multiple times", for a clan who randoms, kills people without warning for no apparent reason, etc.. can you really blame the average person for running when you seem to be chasing after them, with that reputation?

"if you wanna stop dying to clans, do something yourself."
We are, it's called "the game not being worth playing anymore, and quitting"
If that happens enough, bsp won't have anyone to kill anymore. Stopped.

You have to change because you guys (and clans in general who run out of control), are ruining the game. Neutrals aren't. We don't destroy the game by casually zoning people here and there and picking up a decent item on occasion.
  48. Rorc · 21 May 2005
Rurh - You keep saying that Clans are killing the game by randoming everybody.

If we were randoming everybody then there would be an average of 10-12 people out of peace and doing zones - the rest would be hiding in peace rooms all the time to avoid us. This isn't the case.

The most recent sets of randomers aren't even clanned and they are making more kills on "innocent" neutrals than the clans are.
  49. Brafu · 21 May 2005
    Mike R.

In fact it IS too much to ask for. I have been threatened with death more than a few times on my chars simply because some clan fool wanted a piece of my eq and I refused to simply hand it over. I may want to remain neutral and be left alone but Im not about to let anyone boss me around just because they are part of some "elite" clan on a game. Now Im not trying to say all clan people are jerks or something. But a vast majority of the people they recruited are jerks who simply love to play power games with people they believe are neutral.
  50. Rurh · 21 May 2005
Rorc - I'm not saying that clans go on slaughtering sprees... well, not all the time. We all know those exceptions.

I seem to recall the the time when numbers of people logged on, dropping when Sanchez and co. logged on.

But the clans do random, even if it's on a person by person basis. These people tend to be heavily equipped, spelled, and have assistance, and are difficult to deal with - since once you try, they get backup, whereas the neutral can find none.

Also, do you deny that BSD has a bad reputation for such things?
  51. Brafu · 21 May 2005
I think I should probably point out that I don't think most clans are pking at random anymore. Im talking about labeling someone a evil just because they happen to have some decent eq and they rent in a certain town. I just don't like that keeping to myself in kalaman means I will probably be highlighted as a unknown evil.

I think after recruiting Dimian, BSP decided to never deal with KoS in any way shape or form. :P

No, I don't deny BSP Has the bad reputation about these things.

But I will point out that at the time Sanchez and Co were were randoming, they were not with BSP, they were with Outlaws.

The real unfortunate thing that causes these problems is that: Once you are highlighted as "evil" by someone, the system is no-longer innocent until proven guilty, its Guilty until proven innocent.

I'm not sure that mentality will ever change, but like several people have suggested, Be open with who you are, It goes a long way into proving "innocence" regarding clans.
  54. kylep · 21 May 2005
Clans in general arent ruining the mud, neither is randoming imho. The thing that lately has been driving players out is the fact that a certain clan(not going to point fingers) who is dominating the mud, which would normally peace those of the opposing force when they ask for it, are now asking such ridiculous things that its not even worth playing. Thus you see a large reduction of the playerbase from the opposing side, leaving it so that nobody can challenge that one clan. They hunt so extensively and try to more or less destroy the other clan alltogether, where as before there might be peace for a period of time so that the other clan could build up and they could go at it again. Peace those that wanna be peaced, so that zoning can commense, and you'll notice the playerbase rise.

I've been back on arctic for about 5 months after a couple of years absent. Apart from a brief stint in RDA I've always been neutral and have been killed by pretty much every clan on the mud (dubious claim to fame, I know).

So far I've been hitlisted by BSP twice (suspect for recall), copped one death to them (no real bsp involved though, 7 recruits) and was actually given an apology after I was cleared. Lately I've run afoul of RGB & Wild (logging to balifor during bsp/wild fight) and copped one death to them, still working on getting cleared for that.

The main difference I find is that BSP are a lot easier to talk to about being cleared, having talked to multiple people in Wild/RGB (and now Outlaw, since I've moved onto their lists as well) it seems that everyone is told you're evil, but there's little or no system in place to show you're cleared.
  57. suf · 21 May 2005
people would find it a lot easier to get peaced if they didn't go around backstabbing after the last peacing...
  58. kylep · 21 May 2005
backstabbing? i quite remember shadowlords being very neutral until bsp attacked them. Actually now that I think about it, every time I've joined this retarded war is by being attacked for having items bsp wants! Just cuz I can pop Onyx and Diamonds and other goodies doesn't mean im not nuetral!
  59. Rorc · 21 May 2005

Just for people's information - If you talk to the right people in BSP (Martino) they can grant peace and get it circulated IMMEDIATELY to remove you from highlight lists. So - If you really want peace, just ask the right person, and stuff happens.
  60. Mike R. · 21 May 2005
kylep: yeah, we are dominating the mud. but the enemies aren't gone. they still play when they get bored. it isn't our fault that they don't want to get peaced. yair, for example, asked for peace the other day so he can play as a neutral. we told him we can't peace him with ambeoutin axe etc and to give it to his clan and he can do what he wants after that. last i checked, that seems quite reasonable, peace just has to be asked for.

not our fault that enemies prefer to quit over ask for peace.
  61. vaga · 21 May 2005
And no i'm not accusing anyone, just stating the obvious fact. I don't consider it cheating when I make mistake to group with wild scout, and wild scout reports info to his friends.

thats a quote from breaker. yet he was grouped with imani....imani is a known wild. so of course imani reported who he was with to the irc....which equals your FUCKING death. stop thinking its a scout. its you not realizing you grouped with a totally KNOWN wild. that has lead wildlaw groups and is in logs. stop being a bitch and just accept your death breaker.

    yeah that wasnt very smart!:(
  63. pablo · 21 May 2005
evil marq destroying some neutral zoning to get a few items from breaker
  64. jnick · 22 May 2005
Just needs to be a clan system instead of a player control clan system, and i think much will change when it comes to who is neutral and who is some evil char waitting to stab ya in the back. First step imho is to get clans under control because right now its just chaos and no order so people just quit. Clan system imho will help fix many issues we have today in the current player control clan system.
  65. Rorc · 22 May 2005
Jnick - take the discussion about a clan system to the arctic forums.

But I still think there shouldn't be a hard-coded clan system as it will just make stuff much more complicated.

But anyways, the forum is back up, use it for that kind of discussion (this is for posts related to logs)
  66. jnick · 22 May 2005
Rorc- My post is related to the bunch of comments made under this log. So if your going to say it, say it for the rest.

Not much of anything to post thats actually related to the log. For he got siteban nothing more.
  67. breaker · 22 May 2005
Imani was most definately NOT in my group. Group at time of death was Pao, Ezalor, Jeordie, and Duhmo. I obviously know Imani as wild, and would not have been in zone with him....

Vaga shut the fuck up please, i've not complained about my death once. I didn't even bring it up, so don't be a retard.
  68. Arne · 22 May 2005
    From RGB site:

Imani crashes into Breaker in a thundering collision, knocking him to the ground!

    Breaker stops following Jeordie.
    Duhmo stops following Breaker.
Duhmo now follows get all.coins corpse
    exam corpse
    Duhmo now follows Jeordie.
    Ezalor stops following Breaker.
    Ezalor now follows Jeordie.
    Pao stops following Breaker.
    Pao now follows Jeordie.

Read closely and you see that Imani was not part of the group.

replace 'clan system' in 'rules system' in jnick's post is what needs to be done in coding first imho
