Watch them abuse this tactic till it has to be nerfed, as usual.
  2. RottenPotato · 5 Aug 2005
Think about this Rurh, DKs right now have almost nothing else going for them than darkness. Once you take half the usefulness away from some innovative person, what happens?
  3. Wezlar · 5 Aug 2005
I love how when someone finds a useful way to use a skill it's abuse.

Or maybe it's just when Corey does?
  4. Rurh · 5 Aug 2005
Corey's one of the few people who'll find a weakness in the system and utilize it rabidly.

Corey, Yes and you're ruining them more!
  5. nol · 5 Aug 2005
ignore rurh. thank you, corey, for raising the bar of PK.
  6. Rhaegar · 5 Aug 2005
If innovative people didn't find new ways of using the spells and skills in the game, both zoning and pking would become very boring.
  7. Rurh · 5 Aug 2005
    You're missing the point Rhaegar
  8. Rhaegar · 5 Aug 2005
You're being useless as usual, Rurh.
  9. Rurh · 5 Aug 2005
    And you aren't?

Your prior two posts were idiotic at best.
  10. Rhaegar · 5 Aug 2005
Yes, I admit I'm being idiotic, because I'm continuing to waste my time speaking with you.

If Corey had found a bug in the game and started using it to his advantage, that would be wrong. However, there is no bug involved in what Corey is doing. Whether or not darkness is changed in the future, Corey has done nothing wrong.

    Bye.
  11. Rurh · 5 Aug 2005
    You still don't get it.

It's not the fact that it's a bug.
It's taking a tactic to an extreme.

Heaven forbid someone uses a peace breaker to kill you, there'd be no end to your bitching.
  13. Brafu · 5 Aug 2005
Correct me if I'm wrong but.... I don't see anything even remotely abusive in this log. In fact Tremor walked into a bash and got owned. Darkness wasn't even used that I noticed.
  14. darns · 5 Aug 2005
Anyone of you have this annoying neighbour with a dog that won't stop barking? We used to name the dog Rurh, until the fine morning we fed it a juicy piece of steak.. and Rurh was no more... :(
  15. Rurh · 5 Aug 2005
Brafu: Maybe you should reread it.

Adam: I didn't say there was abuse in this log... not yet.

The charm spells weren't considered bugs, but were nerfed to balance.
Relocate wasn't a bug, but was nerfed to balance.
Brew and Scribe weren't bugs, but were nerfed to balance.

Anything can be taken too far. And corey/adam are the a few ones with the sinister tricksyness to take it to a new level where it needs to be rebalanced.

  18. Jarrad · 5 Aug 2005
Ha, Rurh = moron as usual. Tip for the newbies he's pking, if u carry some lights, and then hold them/wear them, then u can recall, make sense?
  19. Edwai · 5 Aug 2005
Rurh what do you care if darkness changes, you don't pk anyway; all you do is read logs of other people killing and tell them how to do it better, or how the victim could get away.
  20. Rurh · 5 Aug 2005
Jarrad - How am I a moron? You can overcome the lights with more darkness. Not many people carry around (who aren't prepared for this possibility) lights to counteract. By the time they scrape enough lights out of inventory, they're probably dead from the damage dealt.

    Edwai - I don't pk? Says who?

I just don't trust the site enough to reveal multis by posting a log. Already got burned by that quite awhile ago.
  21. Malth · 5 Aug 2005
Rurh all you're doing is crying that darkness would get weakened to counteract a tactic that it was made to be used for, and you have the balls to tell someone else they're making idiotic posts? When's suf going to code that filter so we don't have to put up with your trollish shit here?

Btw, who the hell is tremor?
  22. Rurh · 5 Aug 2005
And relocate+prism was a tactic meant to be used for.
And brew/scribe was a tactic meant to be used for.

    What's your point?
Mine is that things can be taken too far.

If they perfect the situation, unless a person has nv, they won't be able to escape.

  25. Derek11 · 5 Aug 2005
As usual you're all fucking morons and jerks.

Corey and Adam are TRICKSY! Heh.

Anyways, I don't think this is abuse. From what I've read neither does Rurh. What he said is that if the trend continues it could be an issue.

On another note pushing the limits is good in some aspects. It premotes change (for better or worse) and the likes of Corey and Adam have been good at finding loopholes in the past. That is part of what makes them good at what they do.

Whether or not I agree with it is irrelevant ATM but there is some sort of admirable quality there.

P.S. Is Salcha really a man?

I fail to see how Rick's response contradicts anything I've said.

Brafu - Not everyone can get nightvision.
There was nothing wrong with using relocate. There was nothing wrong with using brew/scribe. There was nothing wrong with using charm person. There was nothing wrong with mages keeping spells on death. There was nothing wrong with clair giving the information it did.

    Get the idea?
  34. patrick · 5 Aug 2005
You see Rurh's problem with arctic is that the actions of players really arent regulated. What that allows is players do apply game mechanics how they see fit, and to apply them to whatever/whoever they choose. This system does not protect spineless cowards such as rurh, which forces them to hide behind anonymous multies and cry on message boards about the "injustices" of the mud. This is arctic, you played here long enough rurh. I dont understand why you cant just accept what arctic is and enjoy it. You arent changing jackshit

  36. Rurh · 5 Aug 2005

"What that allows is players do apply game mechanics how they see fit, and to apply them to whatever/whoever they choose."

You mean like breadbombing? That's applying game mechanics in a way they see fit.
  37. patrick · 5 Aug 2005
Actually I was referring to the consequences your characters face every time they become known. 10 v 1 pk etc. basically anything that facilitates people owning you in the game
  38. Rurh · 5 Aug 2005
Then you're talking about something off topic.

And you're talking about occurances which happen rarely.
  39. deoph · 5 Aug 2005
Honestly Rurh, if people can't figure out how to carry appropriate recall types to combat this tactic they deserve to die by it. Store sells recall potions, store sells recalls you can use while blinded, many zones pop recalls you can use blind, if your hunted by corey just carry one of these many items. Some are even rentable! One even works in no magic! Not to mention he's only killing trash atm rurh, lets not jump his bones at present.

I do think this (darkness) will get nerfed if people are too moronic to combat it though. I hope not but it would keep with old practices, I think i can point to at least a few things that have changed due to being "too useful" in pvp.
  40. tikk · 6 Aug 2005
People who think anything should be changed by this log are too stupid to find a way out of it.

Its amazing how Rurh comments on this but theres several logs of Dagam using the daze + silence + weariness combo and yet Rurh says shit. Thats the exact same thing thats happening here. Spells are being used to their potential in pk.

But as soon as Corey and Adam do it, it must be horribly wrong and they are taking it to the extreme.

    Rick
  41. tikk · 6 Aug 2005

derek, rurh, typical political minded assholes using bullshit rhetoric to further thier agendas against people that hurt thier poor feelings rather than just cowboy up and fight back to settle the score.

Oh and before you can try to make some claim about how what you do is in no way "politics"

. (used with a sing. or pl. verb) Intrigue or maneuvering within a political unit or group in order to gain control or power: Partisan politics is often an obstruction to good government. Office politics are often debilitating and counterproductive.
    5. (used with a sing. or pl. verb) Political attitudes and positions: His politics on that issue is his own business. Your politics are clearly more liberal than mine.
    6. (used with a sing. or pl. verb) The often internally conflicting interrelationships among people in a society.

Rick: You do understand that future != present, don't you?

How does "They are going to abuse" turn into "They are currently abusing"?

You also haven't countered my examples of past 'tactics' that were considered perfectly reasonable, but were nerfed because people abused it.

I must say, Rick, that out of all those people who regularily respond to me, your posts tend to be the most retarded. I almost feel bad for you.

  48. Brafu · 6 Aug 2005
Hmm... lets see how we can counter this "abusive" combo of dk and basher. Mage/Druid combo? hmm... maybe, but Nah. Cleric/Basher combo? Nah. ohhhhh I KNOW!!! Paladin/Basher combo!! Can anyone say "Brilliance"?

The best defense, is a kickass offense.

Anyone who can't counter darkness with simple eq or a minute or two of prep deserves what they get. Darkness can only be affective when people have no clue its going to be used.

Rurh: Anyone who can't counter magebombing deserves what they get.

This was not changed because mages were reloing to groups and then prisming them. This was changed because trash mages were doing it, not caring if they died, and sometimes they would get a kill or two. Learn your facts.

Rurh: Anyone who can't counter 4x solamnic knight charmies deserve what they get.

This was nerfed because you CANT control someone else charming things.

Rurh: Anyone who gets massive amounts of scribed/brewed treats deserves what they get.

Once again, this was nerfed because you CANT control how much someone else brews.

Rurh: because of my awesome examples above, if corey and adam abuse this in the future, it should be nerfed

Difference here is, you CAN control whether you die. Have shards with you, rem neckwear, wear all.shard, rec recall. Shards are super easy to get. And if you cant do this before they damage you to death, you were dead anyway. This all can be done sitting and they wont attempt another bash at you as corey is bash triggered.

The simple fact of the matter is that darkness is EASILY countered once you know it could be used in combat. The only reason it has worked so far is that the targets never considered it a factor so they ended up being owned. Any person who has a recall alias can also create a alias for wearing/holding 3 or 4 lights to counter darkness and then recall.
  56. Malth · 6 Aug 2005
The brew/scribe change also came because it was shown that even the elite spells could be made and stored in mass. When you have a 10man fighting using almost entirely scribed/brewed items, you've got a problem.

Both mage bombing and high-powered charmies were effective in nice eq or naked. Trash abused it, it got altered because of it. Rarely did a stacked mage relo and bomb an enemy group, compared to the amount of trash that did it.

Rurh: Heres some homework. Go to Maddox.xmission.com. Read as many articles as you can. Do it with an open mind and try to laugh. Ok when done, go to Big-Boys.com, and watch some videos, you should be able to laugh a few times whether you want to or not. If you absorb some of this I have a feeling I may be able to like you more
  58. Rurh · 6 Aug 2005
    Rick:

"This was not changed because mages were reloing to groups and then prisming them. This was changed because trash mages were doing it, not caring if they died, and sometimes they would get a kill or two."

The difference is trivial. The fact is, the technique was not considered abuse until it was abused.

"This was nerfed because you CANT control someone else charming things."

You can't control someone bashing you either. What's your point?

Ever hear of the spell 'dispel magic'?

"Once again, this was nerfed because you CANT control how much someone else brews."

And? It was not considered a bug, but a technique. It was abused. It was nerfed. If it wasn't it'd still be in the same state that it was today.

"Difference here is, you CAN control whether you die. Have shards with you, rem neckwear, wear all.shard, rec recall. Shards are super easy to get."

The difference here is, the exact technique they used in the log isn't what I'm talking about.
The difference is that adding another dk allows for 4 darknesses before bashlag wears.

How easily can you scrape up 4 lights at a moment's notice without warning?

Add another dk, and that's 6 darknesses before bashlag wears. Can you scrape up 6 lights?

This is the 'taking it to an extreme' that I'm talking about.

    Brafu:

"Any person who has a recall alias can also create a alias for wearing/holding 3 or 4 lights to counter darkness and then recall. "

    See above.

Gee, add 8 other random classes and you dont even need darkness. Time to change group limit to 4, There's too much room for abuse with a limit of 10.
  60. Rurh · 6 Aug 2005
    You don't get it.

    3 dks and a basher.

Unless the person is lucky enough to have a recall pot or special wand, the person is dead.

Yet I've survived 10man of BSD vs. me.

Having your dks(or cleric) pre-darkness, and you'd only need 2 helpers.

Just because you have no idea where to load some night vision eq doesn't mean its not fairly simple to get some. Plus as far as I can tell they are not random pking atm. So the people they are attacking have the ability to easily obtain nv eq and if they choose to ignore that advantage then that is their fault.

I'm finally starting to see why everyone thinks you are just a complaining bitch...... Give it a rest man. Its not even a remote problem and in all probability it never will be one. Its just too easy to counter.
  62. patrick · 6 Aug 2005
Hey fagmaster the difference is NOT trivial. 4 stacked mages can bomb all they want, becuase while they have a chance to win, they have a greater chance to die, and so long as your risking something, actions are generally excepted. Your logic would suggest that having a padme/andhean type huma tank. Autohasted 15+dam elite prim nobash/recall if held item/ imm fire/elec/cold 600+ tank is abuse of wearing eq. That kind of character really doesnt stand much chance of dying even if attacking a 6-7 man group if player is smart. So its abuse? Of course not, killing the character would yield a ton of gear and that makes it ok. Now if you could make a char that buff without eq surely the method would be nerfed. The point is that the majority of your bitching revolves around people and practices that force you to play arctic anonymously. The reason you need to play anonymously is becuase practically the entire mud would hunt you the second they find out your multies. If you stopped acting like such a dickhead you wouldnt have as much to bitch about

Rurh, it's common knowledge that you're the one who doesn't get it.

What about a basher and 3 mages? 3 druids? I doubt many people can save 6 paras if the druids are high levels.

How about a druid and 3 thieves? Or even 3 druids and a thief? 3 mages? clerics? Superior numbers and firepower Rurh. I know you're not an intelligent person, but your arguement is just horrible now, even for you.

Will you bitch if 10 dks run around trying to pk with massive darkness? Will you cry when 10 druids or mages do it?

I guess this wouldn't be a problem in your ideal arctic, where pk and nonpk can't interact, which would somehow be good for the mud because people would have even harder times getting groupsif they aren't clanned or playing in a lab.
  64. Mike R. · 6 Aug 2005
heh, if corey and his friends are creative enough to use a dk in pk, a class deemed 'weak' by aristox himself, i think it is admirable that they can come up with something such as this.

if people don't like it, come up with an equally creative way to counter it. (anyone roll a paladin lately?)
  65. Derek11 · 6 Aug 2005
Honestly that was a pretty good post coming from you Mike. Pretty much how I feel too.

Brafu: Yes night vision items exist. Yes Rurh knows where to load them. No Rurh has not been pk'd due to this tactic. So whether or not he knows how and where to load them is pretty irrelevant to Tremor getting pk'd I'd say. Not to mention it's not feasible to think that every person could have a night vision. Stop being an idiot.

Brafu: You said, "its not even a remote problem and in all probability it never will be one. Its just too easy to counter."

That may be true but the same could have been said for bread bombing. opt refuse_item

Again, that is not to say this will be changed at all. Just fucking pay attention and realize he's not saying THIS WILL BE CHANGED. He said if the issue is pushed it may be ruined such as other things were. He then went on to state what things were.

All of your problems are that you don't try to listen.
  69. Brafu · 6 Aug 2005
    Derek

The point I was trying to make, that you and Rurh obviously refuse to see, is that this type of tactic can only be affective for so long, before people smarten up and learn how to easily counter it. These logs we have read so far have dealt only with people who probably had no idea that darkness was going to be used and as such it schooled them. That is the only point I was trying to make.

So before you start calling a person an idiot why don't you think about what they said before you decide to blindly use your typical rhetoric of childish name calling.

EDIT:: Rurh is just trying to start an argument like he always does, and then you two get all pissy when people get sick of it and voice their opinions.

EDIT #2:: I had created that post right after you said I was being an idiot in another post. I just happen to have left my computer without posting it so by the time I got back you had already created new posts and whatnot. My first edit is aimed at your newer posts.
  70. Derek11 · 6 Aug 2005
That might have been a good rebuttle had I used the word idiot in it at all.

Nonetheless, I do have an open mind and have shared my opinion on the matter. Read my previous posts and comment on Mike's post.

That does not excuse the rest of the people for posting without taking the time to think before they respond. It's just rude.
  71. Derek11 · 6 Aug 2005
As usual you are completely wrong on my role in this. I have no problem hearing other opinions and view points. To be well educated on a matter it is important to first see it from a variety of angles. My problem is that immediately Rurh gets insulted. Sure his posting determination can get annoying but they are minor compared to the insults he gets. Speaking of which you commented about me calling you an idiot right after you made personal attacks at him? Hypocricy?
  72. Derek11 · 6 Aug 2005
Ah well. Goodnight all. I'll catch up on the bitching in a day or so. The good news for all of you is that I don't play anymore and am getting farther and farther out of touch with whos who and whats what so my desire to care is diminishing. It wont be long until I give up on posting and you can tear at Rurh without hearing me bitch back.

As "usual"? I don't believe I have ever really clashed with Rurh in much of anything in the past... so my "usual" can't really be determined now can it? Don't try and group me with the people who mindlessly flame when they get pissed.

And my "personal attack" on rurh was extremely minor compared to what the both of you do on a daily basis. Plus I only said I see why people would call him a "complaining bitch", what my own feels about rurh are I shall keep to myself, since I try to keep the maturity of my posts above a high school level. May not always succeed =P But at-least I make the effort.

    Brafu:

"Just because you have no idea where to load some night vision eq doesn't mean its not fairly simple to get some."

I do. Probably more than you.
    That doesn't mean everyone does/can.

"Plus as far as I can tell they are not random pking atm. So the people they are attacking have the ability to easily obtain nv eq and if they choose to ignore that advantage then that is their fault."

Yes, everyone's running around with nightvision items.
What does the fact they aren't randoming have to do with the other person's equipment?

"even a remote problem and in all probability it never will be one. Its just too easy to counter"

I didn't say it was. I've said if anyone could turn it into a problem, it'd be Corey/Adam. I've explained the potential.

  75. Rurh · 6 Aug 2005
    Patrick:
"Hey fagmaster the difference is NOT trivial. 4 stacked mages can bomb all they want,"

But it isn't. The initial nerf was the relocate confusion flag. If the person is suiciding as trash, this doesn't help the situation out much.

    Serious magebombing it hinders.

In the end, it's usually the trash doing it anyway. But the fact is, it wasn't considered an abuse till it was abused.

"Autohasted 15+dam elite prim nobash/recall if held item/ imm fire/elec/cold 600+ tank is abuse of wearing eq. That kind of character really doesnt stand much chance of dying even if attacking a 6-7 man group if player is smart."

What was that Corey was saying about them being stopped with huma shield, etc, because they were 'unkillable'?

"you wouldnt have as much to bitch about "

Here, you are assuming that I am a victim. I'm not.
Why would I be 'bitching' about something that hasn't involved me?

    Malthros:

"What about a basher and 3 mages? 3 druids? I doubt many people can save 6 paras if the druids are high levels."

Depends. There's a greater chance of making it out alive than the basher 2x dk.

"Superior numbers and firepower Rurh. "

That's the point.. it wouldn't take as many people to be as devistating.

We had a similar issue with bash. People keeping another person floored without the ability to recall or anything.
    That wasn't considered a problem...

"Will you cry when 10 druids or mages do it?"

If you had a 10man group, running around, entry 10x fb-ing people, taking out some of the most equipped people in the mud, I guarantee you that it wouldn't be long before something was done about it.

"be good for the mud because people would have even harder times getting groupsif they aren't clanned or "

This is a seperate topic. If you'd like to discuss it, you can find the available thread in the Arctic Forums.

    Mike R:

"think it is admirable that they can come up with something such as this."

The admiriability has little to do with whether it is considered abuse or not.

"if people don't like it, come up with an equally creative way to counter it. (anyone roll a paladin lately?) "

You would have to stand to cast brilliance.

    Rick:

    "Give it up."

    Brafu:

"is that this type of tactic can only be affective for so long, before people smarten up and learn how to easily counter it."

That's not really the point. A lot of people even forget to buy recalls, or don't have recalls handy, and somesuch.
To expect everyone to go out of their way to seek down those irritating-to-get alternatives (which are often norent), every time they log on, just because someone learned to abuse a tactic in the game... needs balancing.

And that's all I've really said. That they have the potential to develop the tactic till it's decided something needs to be balanced.

"Rurh is just trying to start an argument like he always does"

Rarely do I start arguments. Most of the time I make an offhand comment, and people come out of the woodwork to attack me from all sides.
    And naturally, I respond.

"and then you two get all pissy when people get sick of it and voice their opinions."

You only have to look at my accounts thread to see what I mean. No one was interested in constructive critisism or developing an idea.. simply shooting down anything I say.

"Don't try and group me with the people who mindlessly flame when they get pissed."

Only time I've gotten 'pissed' is when someone would bring up a retort, I'd easily refute it.. the next guy would bring up the same retort, I'd refute it again. The next guy would bring up the same freaking retort.. I'd refute it agian.
Then after the 16th time, I just start saying "Well reread what I've said", and when I start doing that, then people start saying that's all I've been saying and I never made the original refutation.

    That's a bit irritating.

You should know by now, and I'm not saying that you don't, that so long as a post looks as if the person took some time and effort and put some thought into it, then I'm more than willing to take it at face value and give it a fair read. But you have to understand that many people don't like your little offhand remarks and they get pissed and so they express that anger in posts.

You just need to stop taking pot shots at people with the little snide remarks you make in many of your posts and I'm sure atleast a few people will start taking your posts seriously. Go and read that one thread on the forum, the one about the seperate realm idea thing, and you will notice that you made a few offhand remarks to me that could only have been an attempt at pissing me off and getting me to flame you.

Maybe it was just out of reflex because everyone is always flaming you and such. But it might help if you stopped doing it and didn't sink down to their level all the time. Why do you think I finally stopped making replies to Benwa? And yes I know I did make a comment about you smoking something and some such.. but it was a harmless comment and not meant in a mean spirited way =P

PS. And yes I realize my posts are a tad long for a log comment so I will stop posting in this one and refrain from allowing my usual need to... rant? Explain everything in great detail? hmm not sure what it is but I will stop doing it in this log comment =P

You know... all this talk about taking stuff to extremes and resulting in rebalancing. The only rebalancing is I can see going on in game is nerfing items, reducing item max of high level zone items and zones that are broken.

P.S. Nearly all elite bows don't even work right still.
  81. Malth · 6 Aug 2005
Let's not forgot most bows are utterly worthless. Load a bow that used to be 20+ dam only to find you MIGHT annhilate as often as you used to? Wow what a reworking of the class, now instead of just assisting, we just aim and fire away, or 'shoot $target' till it dies.

I can't believe I just read all of those posts. Wow.

Rurh: to be honest I have no problem with you, I think I grouped with you a few times last wipe. I do think you should realise however that although your arguments are fairly well constructed, often the information you lay down as fact is simply not correct. I'm not certain how long you have been playing Arctic, I would guess no more than two or three years on and off, but you need to understand that there are alot of players who are vastly more experienced than you. I would suggest that instead of trying to pass yourself off as Arctic's foremost expert on the politics and mechanics of the game, you try and improve your personal zoning knowledge and perhaps even try and join or even form a clan to retaliate against the people who are trying to kill you. A clan of 3 or 4 or 5 friends with the current exp system should be able to form some ambushes easily.

  83. Derek11 · 6 Aug 2005
You are correct Jarred you don't know how long he's been playing. I assure you it's much longer than that. I would also assure you that as far as solo loading ability goes there are few to rival him. Most of his characters are well equiped and done all by himself.
