If control of dam is so vital that neither side risks their stacked warriors in battle, then their effect on the war is zero (except indirect effects of using those warriors to spell up the mages).
Scouts can rescue and do more damage.
Shamans can cure tons and do more damage.
Only thing that makes Warriors even playable is bash. (Thats why they are so important in pk.)

People trying to argue this point are simply trying to feel unique and special, ala monty
I believe the maintanks role is to a) absorb or repel damage efficiently and b) rescue. Lets face it, you want a maintank that can take the brunt of massive hp damage. Noone wears +rescue equip, so focus on a)
Given how versatile warriors are, when it comes to equipping them people start having to decide whether they take the +bash items, the +con or +hp, the +dex to avoid dam, the +dam so more damage is done etc.
Usually this results in a few items of each, or moreso dam or +bash..true very versatile
But when it comes to equipping a barb, because their role is specifically to main, hence you fill them with hp con and maybe dex/saves equip which means they will absorb lots more, avoid some too.
So which would you prefer maining? The meat shield or the basher? When yer facing a fight doing 400 hp per round, you dont want your main bashing in case he misses and takes more dam. You'd also rather have him have more hp, than deal more dam, because a live maintank is more useful than a damaging one.
So sure, you could buff your war with cons and hp, but seriously which war does that v +bash and +dam? None, because although bashers make good tanks, barbs make better mains.

And that being an arguement towards classess like scouts and shamans. Clan zoning on Arctic is never a safe thing, and if I am going to be in a zoning group that may face a masslog, be it ambush or to protect a CR after a massrip, I would MUCH rather that zoning group be comprised of 5 decked bashers, a druid, a cleric, a mage and 2 whatevers...rather than a bunch of scouts and shamans, regardless of whatever marginal increase in zoning effeciancy they provide. You guys know me, I believe in zoning as a means to be prepared to fight, so if you can zone in as close to an ideal battle group it is best, as a whole. Some clans don't have to weigh the pk and war aspect as much as others and I understand that. So when I say warriors making the best all around main chars I say it because if you are my clannie I would rather you had a buff basher first, and secondary scout or shaman or w/e secondary. Each clan needs a buff thief/scout/shaman/etc of course, just everyone who is not playing another class as a MAIN should be playing a warrior that is all. Monty just sad because barb is best class for him to watch run his scripts :)
Especially later in the wipe, it seems that good tank sets become like what B-2 spirits were a decade or so ago--great for intimidation purposes, powerful when used, but pretty much glass cannons that nobody will intentionally risk. That my friend is not glass cannon, that is a horseman of the apocalypse. It is an invisible weapon able to fly nonstop for days at a time with midair refueling and the ability to deliver 16 nuclear warheads deep within enemy territory right under the noses of radar defenses and obliterate any capitol city in the world. If you are referring to the fact that the b-2 does not see much action might have to do with the US not wanting to start a nuclear war with a primitive society who is so stupid and ignorant that they cannot evolve over thousands of years and learn how to be peaceful and not carry on pointless wars since the beginning of civilization, well I think my point is clear.
The B-2 exists as a punctuation point to nations who think simply possessing nuclear weapons puts them on par with the united states. Once again, anyone with any elite zoning experience will agree that if you have the majority of the tank gear, and you have active players wearing it who know how to use it, you can burn through zones FAR easier and quicker, which makes retaining your equipment and popping spells, and loading other peoples shit easier. Also, while I have never seen as many spelled trash casters in memory(this side of a chaos day at least), there really has not nor will ever(I pray to the lord) been a clan group of 10 stunner/prism mages. Although I can think of a view cowards who's wet dream THAT is.
A well balanced tank heavy group does not have much to fear from half a dozen trash casters, unless they are a moron group. Tanks and tank gear coupled with active players is still the cornerstone of maintaining dominance.

You know, considering that enlisted and NCOs (aka, the guys that actually get stuff done) are disproportionately non-white, it's a little discouraging how overtly bigoted some of our veterans act. B-2 spirits weren't used until, I believe, Kosovo (where one was shot down?) because, despite their immense strategic value and the relatively low risk of an actual loss, if one did get shot down and the Russians got to it first, they might have used it to develop their own "punctuation point" without doing the work.
Stacked tanks, superior to enemy mages, low chance of actual defeat, huge loss on the off chance that happens. Cutting edge bombers, superior to enemy forces, low (but not negligible) chance of loss, huge strategic set back if it does happen. Simple enough?
Oh, and I agree, Wilds and Outlaw do seem to rely too much on their mages, and don't risk enough tank gear.

Clearly, its the use of nuclear weapons, or perhaps the act of obliterating an enemy capital city in a preemptive strike because they're the ones who love war too much, that has terrifying ramifications, not the B-2 itself. Which leaves us to ask, why wasn't it used before? There was my theory about risk of loss of technology, of course. There is, of course, the issue of cost--maintaining the outer skin of a B-2 during flight operations is, from what I understand, substantially higher than other military aircraft. Then of course, there is the assertion that the B-2 is key to our first strike capabilities, and shouldn't be tied up/risked/worn out on other missions. Even if these costs are minimal, the fact that they weren't used more often implies that there is a cost, even if only an opportunity cost.

Of course, if you're privy to some privileged information that I'm not, due to your military background, I will of course defer to you. But using a bit of logic and critical thinking, it simply seems that practicality is far more compelling than any sense of peace-loving hippie altruism.

Of course, you're the veteran, not me, but it seems to me it would be a disservice to our soldiers to put them at extra, needless risk for the sake of making it a fair fight? I mean, would we be risking people in Iraq if we thought a fairly risk free, Serbia-style air campaign could accomplish our goals?

Kalis bro, I think we fail to see eye to eye because we have different definations of certain ideas or words. You see, to me a nuclear weapon represents the end of the world in all biblical majesty, regardless of religious ramifications. It is just pure utter annihilation, and when performed on a global scale, promises only pure chaos, suffering, and animal scale violence to any survivors. I really don't think it takes much imagination to understand that any rational human would want to avoid that reality at any cost, be it for selfishness, or moral obligation. The leaders of the different cultures of earth, at their core, obviously want to avoid that fate. But life is like mud, so life is a high stakes pissing contest. And perceived slight cannot be allowed on a global scale.

I think we fail to see eye to eye in this case because you couldn't understand my last post. Short version--I agreed nukes are bad, I disagree that the B-2 is irrevocably associated with nuclear warfare. I get what you're saying--if everything thinks of them as our nuclear first strike bombers, there's a chance that even bringing them out takes us closer to the brink, which is unacceptable. But you're wrong on that. The B-29 was the only plane ever used to deploy a nuke against living human beings, yet we continued to use them in conventional warfare.
As for the rest of your post, I think it's a little extreme to be comparing mages to the suicide bombers like the 9/11 guys, and while the anti-mage bomb you're suggesting sounds great in theory, can you imagine the bitching in practice? I mean, even right now the staff is accused of all sorts of bias over any sort of intervention on any sort of rules--can you imagine what'll happen when they start deleting Mael and Weenor mages based on their own judgement of "main vs. secondary" character?
