You kneel down and study the ground.
Your victim's tracks lead south.
Near the Mouth of a Narrow Pass
The air is chilly and the landscape seems almost sick due to the
constant struggle with the cold harsh winds. Trees are stunted and gnarly,
large rocks have left impact marks on the valley floor and have cut paths
of destruction as they hurled down the valley walls. The road picks its
way carefully along, leading to the south entrance of the pass and deeper
into the mountains.
A stout dwarf marches about here.

Your victim's tracks end here.
An Intersection
As you look up, you see the beautiful, but steep, cliffside of the
mountain. If you listen carefully, you can hear the rush of a mountain
stream. Looking eastwards, the path leads past the edge of the mountains to
the Plains of Dust. Meanwhile, the path splits to the north and west,
showing two paths leading up the mountain. The one to the west seems more
direct, if somewhat narrow.
